I should probably say up front that I fly Gallente and love drone ships so this post is not about Gallente bashing.
I've heard a lot about the Eos changes coming up and people complaining that its DPS and status as a combat ship is being severely nerfed. This is true, but it is a CS and not really supposed to be for combat.
Ok, so its racial gang bonus sucks but that's just bad luck. Having one in a gang with several gang assist modules running will make a huge difference to the overall effectiveness of your ships. This is the whole point.
After the patch those who use the Eos as a fighting ship could just switch to a Megathron with T2 fittings. It is comparable on DPS, tank and playing style and has the added bonus of being insurable. You're not quite as fast but that's not the end of the world.
Just my thoughts.

The myrm is somewhat similiar, as a BC-class droneship with somewhat high damage and a repperbonus, about the same DPS.
The mega is normally run as a sniper(far outrange the Eos, no similarities at all tbh) or a blasterboat where I guesstimate it to have about the double DPS of an Eos, and quite often a passive tank. Drones here is just a small complement not the main damage. Doubt you'll ever see a mega revolving around drones tbh. And I've learned to see and even accept the Hype as a droneboat.
The Mega makes a great sniper for fleet combat yes. But I was referring to the up-close-and-gank-it type of style that the Mega is also quite good at. The Eos tends to gets used in a similar way for small gang/solo combat.

My point is that the blasterthron is a heavy concrete rock with an extreme damage output, say 13-1400 dps, while the EOS was high for a fleet command, it was nowhere near those numbers but possibly half. It did however have an amazing active tank, and was very versatile and nimble compared to the domi for example.
Point is, mega is much more of a one trick gankboat while the Eos was versatile, I see quite alot of ships being more similar to the Eos than the mega.
Fair point. I never meant to imply that the two ships were identical. I'm sure seasoned Eos pilots will point out multiply differences. Unfortunately the Eos is being nerfed so we'll have to change to something.
